Manor School

In the centre of the village, in Drayton Lane

With just over 100 pupils on roll, from the age of rising 5 to 11, the school has a good reputation locally, which was reinforced by what the Tamworth Herald called "a glowing Ofsted report".

FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Cheeky Monkeys Play Group - Wed & Thurs mornings 10-12 noon W.I. Hall. For information, contact Diane Hartless (01827 69199, mobile 07796 795 546)

Nursery (53 places from birth to pre-school) and After-School/ Holiday Club (24 places up to age 11) at Oak Farm Centre and Children's Farm, Drayton Lane, West of the village towards Sutton Coldfield. For information, contact Margaret Kinson, proprietor (01827 289537).

 

Scout Group

Beavers (age 6-8): Leader Sue Smith.

Cub Scouts (age 8-101/2): Leader Jane Williams.

Scouts (age 101/2- 15): Contact Group Scout Leader.

All meet at the Manor School, and accept both boys and girls. Adult help is always welcome in all sections - experience not essential, just be young at heart with a sense of fun and adventure.

ACTIVITIES AT THE W.I. HALL

At the start of Heathley Lane just off the Village Green.

Women's Institute

General Meetings 2nd Wed in the month at 7.30 pm Members of all backgrounds and ages (30 to 90!)

Wide range of speakers and activities, including crafts, humorous talks and general interest.

Come as a visitor to sample - President, Shelley Rooney .

Also meetings for the Over 60's - last Wed in month 3 - 5 pm.

Other organisations meeting in the W.I. Hall:

 "Knit and natter" - every Monday 2 - 4 pm.

Whist Drive - Every other Friday 8 pm.

Age Concern Lunch Club - Mondays 12 noon (Call in any Monday, pre-book by Friday) also monthly lunches out, theatre trips etc. All over-60's welcome. Membership free. Co-ordinator, Jean McLellan.

WORKING MEN'S CLUB

Offers a friendly local licensed club for the village, every evening 7.30 (7.00 Sat/Sun) to 11.00 (10.30 Sun), and Sat/Sun 12 to 3pm Call in and Tom the steward will introduce you to Secretary Kevin Whitehouse or Treasurer Sue Upton to arrange membership - only £3 a year - ladies are full members - children welcome.

Drayton Bassett Parish Council

Chairman: Cllr Phil Millard

The Council deals with a range of matters of real practical concern to villagers, including local amenities, facilities and events, traffic, transport, and the prevention of crime, working with other agencies and representing the Drayton view.

It normally meets each month in the sports pavilion, Rectory Close, when the public are most welcome. Date, time and agenda are posted on the parish notice-board on the village green. Villagers are encouraged to contact the Clerk, Mrs Linda Hayes, (01827 251276) if there is anything they think would improve quality of life in Drayton. (Website: www.draytonbassett.org.uk)

Community Council-run minibus goes to Tamworth 9.30am from outside church Tues & Thurs, back 12.30 Tues, 13.15 Thurs.

Two Retail Parks between Fazeley and Tamworth

- with well-known names including Asda, Sainsbury, Boots, Argos, "big W", and W H Smith.
